To be divorced is to be many things. It can be vulnerable, incredibly vulnerable. It can be freeing; in a way you didn’t think you could be anymore. But on an explicit level, it means that while you were once married, you at some point divorced your former spouse. This is not an experience one comes out of unchanged, and nowhere is this truer than in the Maize, where it quite literally allows you to gain magical powers.
